Introducing the O.G. Dark One
ABC
BECAUSE: Love and hate, light and dark, blonde and icy blonde... just a thin line between the two, right? After weeks of will she/won't she with Emma's version of the Dark One, we finally learned who originated the role in the Camelot stage production: Merlin's lady was turned dark trying to save their love and avenge her village via a little game of Cardiac Crush. Now we're just itching for an Ancestry.com investigation on the whole Dark Ones lineage.

The Walking Dead
AMC
WHAT HAPPENED: "The wall's gonna hold together...can you?" Ah, Rick, always the mildly threatening inspirer. But the question is a fair one -- Alexandria is kind of in shambles, having to face the fact that Rick and crew have arrived back with an army of walkers on their heels just outside the wall. EW recapper Jonathon Dornbush breaks down Sunday's episode as being "about accepting the reality of the moment... For some, the attacks on town are a signal that the world is over. To others, it's business as usual in the fight to survive. It's all a matter of perspective as Alexandria rests in a state of stasis, its future unclear." As for the present, everyone is finding out on which side of the line they fall while the walkers beat at the door: Deanna found the will to fight, Jessie got realistic with her townspeople, Rick kissed her because there's nothing he loves more than realism these days, Denise and Tara followed a similar kiss-in-chaos trajectory, and Maggie...
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: Well, Maggie about got herself eaten by some Pirates of the Caribbean cast-offs. But you can't blame Mags for wanting to leave the safety of Alexandria and go find Glenn (via the sewers -- thanks, Aaron!), especially after the reveal that she's pregnant with his child. And actress Lauren Cohan certainly sides with her character. She told EW, "I overwhelmingly feel like with the loss the life that there is a responsibility to create life. I know there are opinions on every side of the camp about being pregnant in a time like this, but I just find it really exciting ... The world doesn't stop when the world stops." And even though the mission is unsuccessful, Maggie is still holding onto Glenn. Is it heartbreaking or hopeful when she erases his name off the memory wall?

Quantico
ABC
WHAT HAPPENED: It's time for midterms at FBI camp and all that stands between the NATs and next semester is one little bomb planted in the classroom's podium by one of their own. Says EW recapper Dalene Rovestine: "And I thought taking the SAT was stressful." Considering what comes later at Grand Central, it's actually a pretty solid testing strategy, but since they ultimately fail at disarming the bomb, Miranda's little, "Your country thanks you for your sacrifice," isn't of much use. Speaking of a world where Grand Central has been blown up by an FBI freshman, Simon and Alex finally track down Raina, only to discover that it was Nimah who was all over Grand Central a few days before the bombing, and Nimah who has infiltrated a terrorist group who have been known to target landmarks, but seems a little too shacked up for comfort. Sound it out: Skep-ti-CAL.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: Of the NATs' unconventional midterm, showrunner Josh Safran told EW, "We talked a lot about having a segment teaching sacrifice... You know they're gonna survive, but it's about what you do when you're pushed to the brink." It's a good thing to know because -- every character on Quantico is pretty much being pushed to the brink at every single moment of their lives. And, excluding Elias, who is discharged from Quantico after fleeing during the bomb simulation, everyone at the brink seems to choose Alex. Even Nathalie chooses Alex by proxy when she tells Ryan to run instead of taking him in after Alex's gang busts up Nimah's terrorist group. Ah, young love and espionage.

The Leftovers
HBO
WHAT HAPPENED: We need to talk about The Leftovers. And Carrie Coon. And Emmy-winner Regina King. And how if you are not watching all three at every televised opportunity, then we'll also need to talk about your time management skills. HBO's best little-reboot-that-could continues to turn in an excellent sophomore season, with Nora and Erika both trying to figure out if they're the reason for their loved ones' Departures. Dr. Juaquin's office assures Nora that the data they gathered in Miracle is very promising and, as EW recapper Jeff Labrecque puts it, "Nora isn't cursed, nor is she is emitting unusual nuclear magnetic resonance. She's simply possessed by the demon Azrael, but good news -- the Vatican has been contacted." It's a false comfort, one that Nora tries to force upon Erika, with whom she shares a similarly tainted conscience from their last interactions with their lifted families.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: Following Sunday's episode, The New York Times wisely assesses, "The Leftovers excels at many things, but its greatest strength may be its ability to convey so much narrative information so naturally... By the end of the hour, we know why there are numerical markers on the streets of Miracle (they're part of the audio tour); we know why Jerry keeps killing goats (because he killed one on that fateful Oct. 14, and many think that's what made Miracle immune from departures); we know that Erika was planning to leave John; and we know why she buried that bird." That would be because Erika -- feeling like she wished Evie's Departure upon her when planning to leave John -- is trying out the old bird-in-the-shoebox trick her grandmother taught her to confirm Miracle's "chosen" status. Needless to say, no one leaves Sunday night relieved of their guilt... there's just one more hole in one more window.
