The Virgin and the Britney

BECAUSE: Do you like Britney Spears? Do you enjoy seeing Britney look flawless in a variety of pastel crop tops? Do you anticipate Britney song puns at every corner ("the situation had become toxic... this circus couldn't go on... it was time to get to work, bitch")? Those questions are rhetorical. Of course you do -- so, you're going to love Britney's guest-starring role on Monday's episode of Jane the Virgin. Because, well... "It's Britney, bitch!"

CBS
WHAT HAPPENED: It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's -- dammit, Superman, get out of here, this is Kara's show! Straight from the gate, Supergirl has been about Kara trying to figure out what kind of hero she wants to be. "Is she someone who fights her own battles or gives up when the going gets tough?" asks EW recapper Chancellor Agard. Though Kara has consistently done her best to distance herself from Superman, it only takes one slip to expose the secret: "You'd never ask my cousin that," mutters Supergirl in her exclusive interview with Cat Grant. (Does she want to start a family? Seriously, Cat?) Sure enough, a villain shows up to settle his Superman score with Supergirl. Superman swoops in and saves the day, but Kara's got that good girl faith in herself, and the next time Reactron comes around, she ends him once and for all with an improvised molten hot lead glove. And to top it all off, an iChat from "Clark" saying he'll keep the interfering to a minimum: "You stopped Reactron. Something I could never do... Guess it was a job for Supergirl."
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: Newsflash, Hank: We would all watch a Keeping Up With the Kryptonians TV show. The DEO storyline might be the most lacking in this strong new series, but the A.V. Club thinks this episode did wonders for the previously stale relationship between Kara and Alex: "Little moments like Alex saying 'I hope you get fat' while begrudgingly handing over the last potsticker ... [make] their bond feel far deeper than any of the conversations in which they directly state, 'I have faith in you.'" And, of course, everyone loves James and Kara (unless you're playing the long game with Winn <3 Kara). USA Today is gushing: "Melissa Benoist and Mehcad Brooks are just so incredibly lovely together it's almost too much to watch." But we must soldier on, adorableness be damned!

Dancing With the Stars
ABC
WHAT HAPPENED: Backstreet Boys in da house! But even a glimpse of Brian Littrell couldn't distract from a darkness that was hanging over the ballroom: Tamar was so sick she barely showed up for practice, frustrating her partner, Val; many of the pros were suffering from choreography block, including Derek who was worried about losing their high bar and letting Bindi down ("Moral of the story? Bindi and Derek are still perfect," according to EW recapper Robyn Ross, following their all-10s Viennese waltz); and, worst of all, after two perfectly scored dances, Alexa PenaVega and her partner Marc were sent off to pack their sparkly suitcases and spats.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: The PenaVegas are a lovely couple with creatively open minds when it comes to married surnames, but let's make this the last time there's a married couple competing against each other for the Mirrorball, shall we, DWTS? It was just too distracting for two of the best dancers on the show. For example, Yahoo TV's description of Carlos' response to the elimination: "Alexa's husband Carlos wept violently onstage. When would he see her again? Would it be... [gasp]...in a few freaking seconds?!" It was in a few seconds, and he doesn't need to feel so sacrificial about Alexa's exit. He's a good dancer too! We'll just keep telling ourselves that there is an alternate universe where there are enough DWTS seasons and Mirrorball trophies for all of the PenaVegas.

Fargo
FX
WHAT HAPPENED: EW recapper Kevin Sullivan declares, "Let it never be said that a television show cannot simultaneously feature a modern and distinctly American examination of absurdism and a guy getting a meat cleaver slammed into his head." That television show is Fargo, and it combines the two things expertly, best evidenced in the scene where Lou Solverson and then-future President Reagan share neighboring urinals. Lou is in need of answers on why the world feels so broken these days; Reagan doesn't have them, but butcher shop attendant Noreen and her book on the philosophy of Albert Camus might -- life is pointless, we're all going to die anyway. Some, perhaps sooner than others. Ed's big American Dream has always been to buy the butcher shop, and yet there he sits, watching it burn, framed by Dodd as the Butcher of Laverne, a Kansas City contracted killer. In the end, Ed does end up cleaving a few Gerhardts to death, just in time for Peggy to tell him that they should run away... and in time for them to hear the police sirens, that is.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: Everyone agrees that Bruce Campbell was a unique and brilliant choice to play Reagan: "Cult actor Bruce Campbell steps up to the plate with a great impression, wowing the citizens of Fargo at a local hustings with his spiel about religion, education, family, spiritual revival, getting rid of big government and a 'rendezvous with destiny,'" raved The Guardian, and The New York Times tacks on that, "Having played Elvis in the cult favorite Bubba Ho-Tep, it's remarkable how little he has to change about himself to slip into both roles."
