TOP MOMENT OF THE NIGHT
The Daily Show's Pretty Young Thing Arrives
Comedy Central
BECAUSE: Same song, second verse, a little bit younger, a little bit--no, it wasn't worse! In fact, it was a lot of the same. Trevor Noah took over Daily Show duty from the beloved Jon Stewart on Monday night, and while he came with his own personality and some fancy new graphics, the new host didn't do much rocking the boat... yet. He gave his thanks and admiration to Stewart and assured the Daily Show viewers (we who were warned by Stewart upon his exit, "If you smell something, say something") that he would absolutely "continue the war on bullsh-." We shall follow your newly minted sniffer, sir.

Dancing With the Stars
ABC
WHAT HAPPENED: Much like the tune for Bindi and Derek's "TV Night" quickstep -- neither of whom had ever seen The Jeffersons, mind you -- the celebrities of Dancing With the Stars have been movin' on up. Nick Carter and Alexa PenaVega both got near-perfect scores with all 9s, cute-as-a-national-hero Alek Skarlato scored his first 9, and the judges called Tamar and Val's Mad Men tango Must See TV. EW recapper Robyn Ross rightly points out that while guest judge of the night Alfonso Ribeiro is "an alum of one of TV's best theme song shows ever," no one donned the neon colors and geometric shapes of the '90s to go cha cha with their auntie and uncle in Bel Air.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: But in much sadder news, and not just because it's in need of accompaniment from the Gilligan's Island theme song, Kim Zolciak and her pro partner Tony were forced to withdraw from the competition after Kim suffered a mini stroke. Most offered their well wishes, like Erin Andrews who tweeted a simple "love u" to the reality star, but Wendy Williams was not one of those people, hinting on her talk show that Kim might be faking her illness for sympathy votes, leading Kim to tell her what was up ("You mad cause I didn't come on your show!") on Instagram. Maybe Hayes could aid these ladies in a super hip Vine feud?

Big Bang Theory
CBS
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: Let the shippers rejoice: After nine seasons of having the most interesting chemistry in the bunch, Penny and Sheldon are finally making out. Well -- sort of. Let's back up: Sheldon thinks the only way for Penny and Leonard to get past Leonard's Arctic kiss is an eye-for-an-eye agreement, so he offers up his newly single tongue to Penny, and she more than willingly accepts. "And then Leonard wakes up," EW recapper Lincee Ray tags this scene with a much needed dose of reality. But still, it happened! Far more jarring for Sheldon though, than any imagined rounding of second base, is Amy leaving him high and dry on "Fun with Flags" now that they've broken up...
WHAT HAPPENED: And it's Hypable's opinion that The Big Bang Theory's de-coupling of Amy and Sheldon may be the best decision the show has made in years: "While Amy and Sheldon have passed various milestones -- hugging, kissing, exchanging I love yous -- it has become increasingly obvious that something is missing from their relationship: Sheldon does not respect Amy." As funny as the juxtaposition of their characters has been, while Amy is generous and patient with Sheldon, he belittles her emotional and physical needs and insults her field of study at every turn. Any reconciliation between the two -- somehow strongly hinted at in Monday night's episode even as Sheldon compares Amy's genitalia to the formerly dissolved country of Czechoslovakia (okay, we really see Hypable's point) -- would hopefully represent great growth for Sheldon, rather than yet another compromise for Amy.

Castle
ABC
WHAT HAPPENED: This fall season's breakups aren't relegated to only CBS shows with 15+ million viewers a week though, friends. No, the little guys know heartbreak too. Beckett's peril from last week's Castle premiere spilled into Monday night's episode, as well. While running away from some bad guys she's grazed by a bullet, so she stops by an industrial dry cleaner, "strips down to her black, lacy bra, holds a needle to a flame, chugs some Vodka, and begins to cross-stitch her gut," says EW recapper Lincee Ray. Beckett is bad ass, but she's also a lady with some unfinished business by the end of the episode, so with tears in her eyes, and asking him to please forgive her, she leaves Rick Castle behind with hopes that he'll take her back when (if???) she returns.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: Dry your eyes, dearies, we've got good news and we've got bad news. Before season 8 premiered, new co-showrunners Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter told TV Line, "The important thing to say about [Beckett and Castle] is: The show has always been and will always be about their love affair, but we're looking to add some drama to it, some spark to it." The bad news is said drama is apparently a separation unwanted by both parties. So how 'bout that spark comes in the form of less weeping and walking away from each other in the next few eps, fellas? We beg of you.

One More Thing...
Mobama the Beautiful
CBS
ONCE A PATRIOT, ALWAYS A PATRIOT: Stephen Colbert had a stacked Late Night deck on Monday night, not only bringing out Michelle Obama to talk about her post-White-House plans -- she's mulling over some crazy ideas like being allowed to open a window and drive to Target -- but John Legend also joined the host at his desk to duet on "America the Beautiful" in FLOTUS' honor. We say, take this trio on the road!
