TOP MOMENT OF THE NIGHT
Trevor Noah Joins Colbert
CBS
BECAUSE: With just weeks to go until his Daily Show debut, Noah stopped by Thursday's episode of The Late Show and revealed the advice Jon Stewart gave him about the gig. "Jon is like a Jewish Yoda," he told Colbert of the Daily Show great. "I said, 'What's The Daily Show?' He said, 'The Daily Show is what The Daily Show should be for you to be the best show you can make.' I don't want to seem stupid, so I walked away."

Project Runway
Lifetime
WHAT HAPPENED: Project Runway fans usually fall into two different camps: unconventional challenge lovers and unconventional challenge haters (and, of course, pre-Posen or post-Kors). If you're in the in the former crew, you'll be pleased to know that Thursday marked season 14's second unconventional challenge, and this time they weren't messing around with paper, which is basically fabric anyway. No, in this challenge, the designers had to use outdated technology -- old PCs, polaroid photos, cords and cables, flip flops (er, make that floppy discs), etc. -- to create a modern look. And the season 14 crew finally rose to the occasion in what EW recapper Dalene Rovestine calls "one of the best runways of the season so far." Kelly takes the win with her mind-bogglingly dynamic aluminum tubing mini-dress, but Joseph just never could give the judges what they were looking for (re: not "mumsy") and was sent home.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: The talk of the Project Runway town right now is less dominated by CD-ROM sleeves and phone cable corsets, and more by the fact that it's New York Fashion Week and six season 14 finalists debuted their collections last Friday. Cosmo reports -- put on your fashion-forward (or were they just perfunctory?) eye goggles by Kelly for POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD -- that spontaneous applause erupted, a "more positive [reaction] than we've seen from a Runway audience in years," when it became clear that one of the collections was designed entirely for and modeled by plus size women. Remember: some of the collections that show at NYFW are finalists and some are decoys, but from that response, Heidi Klum better hope she and her sassy gang of fashion police made the right, groundbreaking choice.

Graceland
USA
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: To tell the FBI the truth or not to tell the FBI truth -- an internal struggle that about 50 percent of television characters are constantly facing. On Graceland's season 3 finale, Briggs creates a false report that would effectively punish Sarkissian while absolving the house crew from their many crimes-in-the-name-of-law, but Mike wants to tell the FBI the truth. Because Mike is a good guy... isn't he? "It's just not that simple!" scream Aaron Tveit's good-guy face. With the threat of exposure sending Jakes on the run (and to the kitchen shears) with his stolen money and Courtney along with him, and Briggs killing Ari in the name of his false narrative, Mike ultimately decides to sign on to the story. Executive producer Jeff Eastin told EW, "The idea this year was to push everybody as close as we could to that edge ... if Heisenberg can be redeemed, just about anybody can."
WHAT HAPPENED: But one thing we're never getting back: Jakes' sweet, sweet locks. Buddy TV has it right in saying that the loss of Jakes' dreads was "probably the most painful and emotional death Graceland has ever featured." And get this -- that was really Brandon Jay McLaren cutting off his real hair in that scene! Even though Brandon was totally up for it, Jeff Eastin told TV Line, "We spent a lot of time trying to decide -- can we do this? We didn't want to have a Felicity moment on our hands!" With Jakes likely out of the house for good, Brandon Jay McLaren will hopefully be left to mourn in peace.

Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll
FX
WHAT HAPPENED: If you weren't tuning into Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll over the course of its 10-episode run -- you are not alone. The show's ratings were not so good in its debut season and, aside from dedicated performances from charismatic leads Elizabeth Gillies, Denis Leary, and John Corbett, the series hasn't been so great itself. Of its finale, EW recapper Kyle Anderson says Sex&Drugs hardly even attempts to stick the landing: "This episode didn't so much come to a satisfying conclusion as it did stop mid-sentence, like that oddly hilarious re-cut of the finale of Robocop. Just know this: Leary fronts a band called the Assassins that briefly splinters into another band called Beastcore -- did we mention it's set in the '90s? -- gets a "vibe advisor" named JP, and comes back together in the finale. That's what Sex&Drugs was working with.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: So, why are we even talking about this mostly failed attempt at a sexy, indie behind-the-music-scene series? Well, because it was a (supposed-to-be) major new show that concluded on Thursday night, and we're nothing if not diligent nightly TV recappers -- but also because we're with the A.V. Club in holding onto the bits of hope from Sex&Drugs to say, "There's still reason to believe that Leary can deliver another promising series -- just not this one." We'll be waiting!

One More Thing...
Sneak a Peek at Quantico
ABC
A VERY PRETTY PEEK: Night after night of summer finales can only mean one thing: Fall TV is finally almost here! Though most series won't return or debut for another week or two, ABC has released the first eight minutes of Quantico in advance of its Sept. 27 series premiere. And if you like good-looking people and the promise of good-looking people looking startled/confused/betrayed in the future -- basically, if you like other hit ABC show, How to Get Away with Murder sans Viola Davis, plus Bollywood royalty, Priyanka Chopra -- then you'll like this.
