 | | | VIEW IN BROWSER | | | | | | | | | | | THIS ISSUE: American Horror Story: Hotel, Survivor, Nashville, Arrow, Supernatural | | | | | | | Angela Basset Enters AHS: Hotel, Owns it Immediately | | | FX | | BECAUSE: Two words: Angela. Basset. And how about two new ones: Ramona Royale. Basset's anticipated entrance into this season of American Horror Story was as fierce as you might have imagined, with fur and big hair and elevator montages. It's not a far stretch for Angela Basset to play a beautiful actress who never seems to age... but being number-one-enemies with Gaga? Now that hurts. | | | | | | | | | | Survivor | | | CBS | | WHAT HAPPENED: Boy, there are really some characters on this Second Chances season of Survivor. In Wednesday night's episode alone, we've got Abi Maria over at Angkor being annoyed that Woo is sharing about his mother's heart condition because she once had a knee tendon transplant, Spencer pulls yet another Grinch (his heart grows three sizes, obviously), Joe couldn't lose a challenge if his survival depended upon it (it does!), and Stephen Fishbach -- actually, we'll let EW recapper Dalton Ross handle what happened when Stephen stepped up to the Immunity Challenge plate, finally ready to be a physical asset to Bayon: "He grabbed the projectile, pulled back the launcher, aimed, released, and SCORED A POINT...for the wrong team." Second Chances, everybody! | | WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: It may seem obvious, but it's worth pointing out, as Yahoo TV does, that Survivor isn't exactly Beyoncé: "Who rules the Survivor world? Not always the girls ... just because you're all women doesn't mean everyone trusts each other." That was the downfall of one Monica Padilla on Wednesday night -- well, that and her thoughts on clam preservation -- when she approached Kimmi with the idea of voting Spencer out at Tribal Council to secure the option of an all-girls alliance in the future, but all Kimmi heard from Monica was, "I'm thinking about future alliances not current alliances, and no matter what, I won't let you eat clams." And so, Wigglesworth lives to be invisible another day, while Monica must go be invisible elsewhere. | | | | | | | | | | | | Nashville | | | ABC | | WHAT HAPPENED: Are you ready for some resolutions? Ready or not, the characters of Nashville are getting some, and it's about damn time, even if it's not good news all around. Deacon apologizes to Scarlett for not being there in the hardest moment of her life; Jeff says he can ditch Layla to be able to focus on being a big business man; Rayna helps Layla write a song about what a dirtbag Jeff is for her album; and just as Juliette hits rock bottom and rushes back to Nashville to try and piece her life back together, Avery asks her for a divorce and full custody of the baby. To quote EW recapper Lincee Ray, by way of Rachel Green, "And that, my friend, is what we call closure." | | WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: Oh, there was one thing that wasn't so clear -- Rayna agrees to let Maddie go on a date with Colt in Atlanta, but after voicing that her go-to move in challenging adolescent situations is to channel Juliette (you know, the strung-out starlet), there's a very ambiguous scene where Maddie and Colt may or may not have done more than just touring on a tour bus -- and the recapper at TV Line has one small question about it: "To whom must I pray in order to avoid a teen-pregnancy storyline?" We're fearful even Rayna's powers are not high enough for this one. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Arrow | | | The CW | | WHAT HAPPENED: Don't be fooled, says EW recapper Jonathon Dornbush -- "It may seems like things are back to the 'old times' Felicity remembers fondly at the start of [the episode], but that would be a surface-level look at the state of Team Arrow at this point." A deeper dive might show you that Oliver and Diggle are working together to take down a murder-card-slinging metahuman, but there's still a huge gap in trust there; that Laurel is trying to restore normalcy to her life by bringing her sister back from the dead; and that Thea is trying to figure out what's normal after her return from the Lazarus Pit. The episode is called "Restoration" though, and restore it does -- Oliver and Diggle make strides toward reconciling their bromance and Laurel finally gets that familial resurrection she's been dreaming of for Sara, violent rages and all. | | WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: As for Thea, she'll always have the time she told her dad -- a.k.a., Malcolm Merlyn, a.k.a., the new Ra's al Ghul -- what was up. So, what exactly is up with Thea? She tells Malcom about her Lazarus Pit-induced bloodlust, and when he encourages her to indulge in it and maybe try killing a few fellas, per the A.V. Club, "She calls complete bullshit on everything Malcolm has just said, translating his operatic verbiage into its literal meaning: Dad just told her to go on a killing spree." And they are loving that! Not only does Thea call her dad out, but by making him the new Ra's al Ghul, Arrow takes "a lot of mystical mumbo jumbo ... and locates it in very specific human emotions." | | | | | | | One More Thing... | | | | | Jensen Ackles Pulls Double Duty | | | The CW | | MR. DEMILLE: Love Wednesday night's Supernatural episode? Jensen Ackles directed it. Because being an evil-fighting, good-looking leading man with excellent taste in cars just wasn't enough, we guess. It's worth looking at the EW Instagram for some behind-the-scenes pics of #ActionAckles in his (literal) director's hat. | | | | | | | Also Check Out... | | | | | | | | | | | | | Copyright © 2015 Entertainment Weekly and Time Inc.
